A musician with multiple facets, Ray Lema here unveils the “Paradox” of his many cultures. Native of Congo in Africa, raised to the sound of Bach and Mozart, a musical trailblazer, from Jimi Hendrix to Bulgarian Voices and Gnaoua or Pygmy hypnotic transe, Ray Lema has not ceased to explore and learn from other cultures through his 50 years of career. Accompanied by rhythm sensations, Etienne Mbappe on bass and Francis Lassus on drums, he offers us an opus of extreme sensibility dedicated to the memory of absent brothers: Claude Nougaro and Ali Farka Toure. “Paradox” is a journey through Ray Lema’s musical universe, from classical music to malian tainted rock and french-sung congolese rhumba, always flirting with jazz and french variety with the composition “C’est une Garonne” written for Claude Nougaro.
